Welcome to Tha's Portfolio
My name is Tha, and I was born in Thailand. Both of my parents were born in Burma, but they moved to Thailand because of the war. Life in Thailand was challenging at times, but my parents worked hard to give our family a better future. I lived in Thailand for 13 years before my parents decided to move to Canada in search of better educational opportunities and a more stable life. The transition was not easy, moving to a new country, learning a new language, and adjusting to a different culture came with many challenges. However, my parents always encouraged us to focus on education and to make the most of the opportunities available to us.
I come from a big family, which has shaped who I am today. I have two sisters and four brothers, so growing up in a large household meant there was always someone to talk to, play with, or even argue with! Being part of a big family taught me the importance of teamwork, patience, and understanding. We’ve always supported each other, and even though things could get chaotic sometimes, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Currently, I’m working at ABC Day Nursery at Somme. When I first started working with children, I wasn’t sure how it would go. I was nervous and unsure if the children would like me or if I would be able to connect with them. On my first day, the supervisor gave me a tour of the building, and to my surprise, the children from every room ran up to me and hugged me. I was completely shocked, I never expected such a warm and genuine welcome. Suddenly, all my nerves melted away, and I felt a sense of belonging and excitement that I had never experienced before. That moment made me realize how much I enjoy working with children and how rewarding it can be to form meaningful connections with them.
Over the next few months, my confidence grew as I became more comfortable in my role. I learned how to engage with the children through play, music, and creative activities. I also discovered how much I enjoyed seeing the children’s growth — whether it was watching them learn new words, solve problems, or simply express themselves through art and play. After working for five months, I knew that this was more than just a job for me, it was a calling. That’s when I decided to pursue my Early Childhood Education (ECE) so I could become a certified Early Childhood Educator and continue to make a positive impact in children’s lives.
My experience at the daycare has also taught me valuable life skills like patience, adaptability, and communication. Every child is unique, and learning to understand their individual needs and personalities has made me more empathetic and attentive. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the children grow more confident and independent over time, knowing that I played a small part in their journey.
Education:
I graduated from W.F. Herman Academy – Secondary School in 2020. After high school, I took some time to figure out what I wanted to do. When I started working at the daycare, I realized that early childhood education was my true passion. That’s why I decided to enroll in the Early Childhood Education program at St. Clair College. My coursework has been incredibly helpful in deepening my understanding of child development and learning strategies. I’m excited to continue growing in this field and applying what I learn to my work at the daycare.
Future Goals:
My goal is to become a fully certified Early Childhood Educator and continue working in early learning environments. I hope to eventually take on a leadership role where I can mentor new educators and help shape early learning programs that are inclusive, creative, and engaging. I’m passionate about helping children feel safe, supported, and inspired to learn — and I know that pursuing my ECE will help me make a meaningful difference in their lives.
